Terms
The deal, in plain words.
These terms govern your use of the Halo app, the Halo Cloud service, and this website. By installing or using Halo you agree to them. We've kept them short and readable. Last updated 2026-06-15.
Beta software
Halo is currently in beta. It is provided “as is,” may contain bugs, and its features may change or be removed. We work hard to make it reliable, but you should not rely on it as the sole record of anything important. Your local data lives on your Mac; keep your own backups of anything you can't afford to lose.
Your licence to use Halo
The Mac app is free to use on-device, forever. Paid plans (Halo Cloud, Halo Cloud Team, and the Lifetime License) grant you a personal, non-transferable right to use the corresponding features. You may not resell, sublicense, or redistribute the app or your access credentials.
Each account or licence may be active on up to two Macs at a time. You can free a slot at any time by removing a device from your account page. Team seats are per-person and cannot be shared between people.
Acceptable use
Don't use Halo to:
- break the law, or capture or process other people's information without the consent you're required to obtain;
- reverse-engineer, abuse, or attempt to overload the Halo Cloud relay or this website;
- resell Halo Cloud access or circumvent the per-account device and seat limits.
You are responsible for how you use Halo, including for obtaining any consent legally required before recording calls or capturing content involving other people.
Payments, trials & cancellation
- Subscriptions (Halo Cloud, Halo Cloud Team) bill monthly through Stripe and renew automatically until cancelled. The Team plan bills per seat, minimum two seats.
- Paid subscriptions include a 7-day free trial. Cancel before it ends and you won't be charged.
- You can cancel anytime from your account page; access continues through the end of the period you've paid for.
- The Lifetime License is a one-time purchase. It is perpetual for the major version it was bought against.
- Refunds are handled case-by-case. Email us and we'll be reasonable.
Privacy
Your use of Halo is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what stays on your Mac (almost everything) and the few things that touch our servers only when you opt in. The privacy architecture is part of these terms.
Disclaimers & liability
Halo is provided without warranties of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data. Our total liability for any claim relating to Halo is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes & contact
We may update these terms as Halo evolves; material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above. Questions about these terms? Email hello@heyhalo.app.
